About the Wiki

The Traverse Bay PRI Wiki is also a tool that automatically builds an email newsletter and sends it to the members of the Wiki community each week. That newsletter includes a brief announcement about updates to the Wiki in the form of headlines.

The newsletter feature allows users to get one email each week, scan it, and see a list of all the additions made to the Wiki. It also allows them to click on a link to any one of the many updates featured in the newsletter and get carried directly to that update in the Wiki so they can get complete information about their topic of interest.

The Wiki can be used as an educational platform with pages you design that has the information PRI members need to have in order to fill their roles. For example, a page has been created for each of the Five Strategies Committees to use as a support tool for committee related activities. This means whether your on the Navigators, Mentors, Education, Advocacy, or Communication committee, you (or the other members of that committee) can post materials to your committee page so they are available to everyone and know they will receive an email that tells them the materials have been added to the committee page.

You can also use the Wiki to initiate discussions, respond to each others' questions, and know that a record will be created of the discussion. This allows for a record of the issues, solutions, actions, and results to grow as the membership uses the Traverse Bay PRI Wiki.

Overtime, as users become familiar with the Training Resources page(s), they be able to store, share, and view pictures, documents, and videos about topics related to the work of PRI. One of the exciting features of the Wiki is how users can use Droplets to broadcast the content of the Wiki directly to their MySpace, Facebook, and iGoogle accounts.

Droplets extend the reach of the Wiki to a much broader audience, those who are friends and followers on the social media sites commonly used by members of the user groups which make up the Traverse Bay PRI Wiki community. Strategic use of Droplets and sites like Facebook can build the following of PRI on Facebook and increase the exposure of PRI to the general public.

There's nothing like repeated exposure to prepare an audience for your call to action and support of Traverse Bay PRI.

One final note: We are currently planning a series of short workshops or info sessions to orient prospective Wiki users and show them how to navigate the Wiki and use the built-in tools and features. Let us know if you are interested.

Hi, Glenn

Your site looks great. I especially liked your use of videos to help tell the story. So, I added one of them to our videos here on this site by embedding it directly from Youtube. Looks like it would be worthwhile to add more. Now that's on my "To Do List." LOL!

Hi everyone!
It's Glenn Puit with The Michigan Land Use Institute. I wanted to drop a quick note to let you know we've started publishing our special journalism series on the biggest challenges working families face in Northern Michigan. It's called Families on the Edge: Designing Communities That Work. We've published three articles so far -- one an overall framing piece; two a story about affordable housing; three a story about MYOI and how it mentors kids aging out of foster care. I hope you have a moment to check them out. The first two stories are at :
http://mlui.org/report.asp?spid=79
The MYOI story is at: http://mlui.org/blogs/?p=1557
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me at 231-941-6584 x-20
Thanks!
Glenn
